The cool new website, AS - Artists Studios, has been visiting, interviewing, and documenting the studios of un-represented artists in New York City. Fowler artists have been visited in the past couple of months … Check out our artists in their studios, learn about their work, and be amazed! Thank you, AS!

Artists interested in being considered for a studio visit can check out the AS - Artists Studios submission guidelines here: http://artists-studios.com/artist-submission-guidelines/

Hannah Lamar Simmons is an installation artist working with paper as a sculptural medium, video projection, and interactive media. She is a newer addition to the Fowler flock and is already an active and inspiring part of our studio family. Having only recently moved to New York City, Hannah is taking the city by storm! Read on for more about Hannah’s work and upcoming exhibitions.
Hannah Lamar Simmons has her first solo show opening July 8th at the Carrboro Arts Center in Carrboro, NC. The show will feature an installation in newspaper: Hannah meticulously cuts entire story lines from a local newspaper issue and glues them in linear trails onto the walls of the exhibition space, thus creating a topography. Viewers must stand up against and physically follow the story map in order to “read” the piece. Watch a video documenting the making of one of these pieces: http://vimeo.com/17708231
- Later this Summer, Hannah will continue her collaboration with Australian artist Rebecca Kinsey - together they are paperJAM. Check out their website for images from their most recent installation, Under Construction. While on exhibit at No Longer Empty’s About Face, painter Giorgio Casu was inspired to use the space in promotion of his design featured on playwatch’s most recent watchface edition. PaperJAM collaborated with Giorgio, designer Michele Palazzo, and producer Carlo Vittuci to create animations which can be viewed here:

- Under Construction was awarded the single open call spot offered in the Lower East Side’s No Longer Empty’s exhibition About Face which opened in conjunction with the New Museum’s Festival of Ideas for the New City (May 2011).
