Exhibition Opening: Friday, Nov. 8th from 7-9pm
Fowler Project Space is pleased to present Split Seven, a group exhibition curated by Matt Phillips. The exhibition presents paintings and works on paper by Yevgeniya Baras, Michael Kennedy Costa, Ariel Dill, Dana Frankfort, Sean Greene, Clare Grill, Jessie LeBaron, Russell Tyler, Keith J. Varadi, and Joel Werring.
Like the Split 7” EP, this exhibit will present works by various artists in pairs. These couplings will promote a “loose chatter” between the individual works and within the show as a whole - as pieces impact one another through sheer proximity and a shifting conceptual context. These visual exchanges will cast new light on the works of the participating artist, while bringing together communities who assemble to study and celebrate the handmade image.
The works in Split Seven favor the nonobjective. The artists utilize broad sources ranging from 18th century Romantic landscape painting to 8-bit video games. Formally, their art employs a variety of working methods including intuitive mark making, collage, and painted text. While each artist’s approach to their work is unique, they all share a core belief that their chosen materials are primary in making visual meaning and metaphor.
Please join us for the opening reception of Split Seven on Friday, Nov. 8th from 7-9pm. The exhibiiton will be on view from Nov. 8-Dec. 8, 2013, and can also be viewed during our open gallery hours on Saturdays from 12-5pm and by making an appointment.
