As part of Nuit Blanche, NY this Saturday, Oct. 1st, Ugly Art Room is constructing a site-specific installation that showcases the work of seven artists in a very unusual way. UAR’s black-painted box will be lit from within illuminating the word “PEEP” carved at the top and seven “View-Masters” mounted to its face. Each View-Master features seven images from one artist. The chosen works exploit the prone viewing, the seven image structure, the depth of 3-D, and the low-fi dreamscape of the slideshow faux-diorama.
The View-Master™ naturally affords a dreamlike experience for the viewer, while allowing the artists various uses for the switch from image to image - be it story, free form surrealism, or abstraction. With their backs to the festival, the viewers will share in group privacy within the overall light show. From an interactive standpoint, the viewer is simultaneously viewed, becoming part of the public landscape.
FEATURED ARTISTS: Ian Addison Hall, Zach Hyman & Carrie Shaltz, Nicolas Maloof, Katherin McInnis, Chris Mottalini, Hannah Lamar Simmons & Bonnie Simmons, and Bob Weisz.
